The border location to Bavaria, Hesse and Thuringia makes the region very versatile. Active hikers visit the areas around the East Hessian low mountain range or the Upper Rhone in the northwest, where the Wasserkuppe is considered the highest elevation.

While geologists enjoy the red sandstone and shell limestone formations, families with children get their money's worth in the southern Rhön in the Rhenish-Westphalian basin or at the lake when splashing around. Visitors can discover the animal and plant world by cycling through the valleys of Haune, Ulster and Felda.

In winter, skiers or cross-country skiers like to camp around Bischofsheim an der Rhön, in the Kreuzbergschanze or on the Black Moor. Besides the nature experiences between mountain and valley, you will discover castles, monuments and ruins between the towns of Bad Kissingen and Meiningen.

The Rhön lies almost in the middle of Germany, and thanks to its location in the 2,500 km² biosphere reserve of the same name, the low mountain range offers space for numerous campsites in beautiful nature.
