Saxony Anhalt

Saxony-Anhalt is mainly characterised by the Harz National Park, a varied lake landscape and its many rivers such as the Elbe, Saale, Havel and Mulde. In the north of Saxony-Anhalt is the sparsely populated area of the Altmark, a largely flat region with unspoilt landscapes such as the Elbe floodplains or the Drömling Nature Park. Even further south, the Thuringian foothills join the Harz. The Brocken is with 1.141m the highest mountain in the national park Hochharz. The area of the Saale-Unstrut valley and the Middle Elbe biosphere reserve are very worth protecting due to their special flora and fauna.
